A patio is only as good as what is under it.
A paver patio that sinks, rocks or grows a puddle in the middle almost always failed underneath. We dig the area out, put down and compact a stone base, screed the bedding layer, then set the pavers and lock the edges in with a soldier course so the pattern cannot creep.
Drainage comes first on these jobs, because we spend most of the year fixing water problems on driveways and roads. The patio gets pitched away from the house, and where the ground needs it, stone beds and pipe go in before a single paver is laid.

Do you help choose the pavers?
Yes. Taben lays the shape out on the ground and brings options for color, size and pattern, so you can see it before anything is ordered.
Why do patios sink or move?
Nearly always the base. If the stone under it was not deep enough or not compacted, the pavers settle. We build the base first and compact it in layers.
Can you fix drainage at the same time?
Yes, and we would rather do it in that order. Drainage work is most of what we do, so the grading and any pipe or stone go in before the pavers.
